Areas of Practice: State and Local Tax Litigation
Narrative: Liane has a distinctive combination of professional and educational experiences. Her practice focuses on cases involving sales and use and other state and local taxes. Since joining Van Allen LLC, Liane has worked with many large Pennsylvania corporations, as well as with other large corporations with a global presence.
Liane attended Widener University Commonwealth Law School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and is a 2020 graduate. During her time in law school, Liane was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, Veteran’s Association, Public Interest Law Society, and the Latin American Law Students Association. Liane spent a year at the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg’s Domestic Violence Legal Center, where she advocated for indigent clients in various matters including protection from abuse, custody, and divorce. Liane also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Susan E. Schwab, United States Chief Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. In her last year of law school, Liane worked as a Law Clerk for a semester at Hawke, McKeon & Sniscak, LLP where she conducted legal research and drafted legal documents for administrative litigation before the PA PUC. Liane also contributed to the Pennsylvania Appellate Advocate blog. During her last semester of law school, Liane started at Van Allen, LLC as a Law Clerk.
Prior to attending law school, Liane served 10 years on Active Duty in the United States Army as a paralegal in the Jag Corps. Liane’s assignments and duty positions include Basic Combat Trainee, Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Paralegal Specialist, Fort Jackson, SC; Paralegal Non-Commissioned Officer, Fort Riley, KS; Pre-Trial Non-Commissioned Officer, Fort Irwin, CA; Criminal Law Non-Commissioned Officer, The Pentagon, Arlington, VA; and Paralegal Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Carlisle Barracks, PA.
Liane also deployed to Tikrit, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, KS in 2009-2010, where she provided legal assistance to deployed service members, served as a military claims assistant, and served as a military liaison to female’s living in Iraq.
During her time in the military, Liane also served as a victim advocate, a Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention Program Coordinator, and as a Supervisor over a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Liane earned the Distinguished Honor Graduate award at both the Army Warrior Leader’s Course and the Advanced Leader’s Course. Liane’s military awards include The Meritorious Service Medal; The Army Commendation Medal (x5); National Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; The Army Achievement Medal (x5); Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Oversees Service Ribbon; Meritorious Unit Citation (x2); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Certificate of Achievement; Army Good Conduct Medal (x3); and the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
